Bama lands stellar class

Tide class is a good one…Many of you have asked me why I don't concentrate on basketball recruiting as much as I once did. Recruiting services and sites have become so excessive that I've had many recruits tell me they are worse than the coaches. I don't want to be a part of that. My premise with recruits is pretty simple. I introduce myself at either a high school game or summer camp and ask them to give me a call if they have anything to tell me. Because I'm a lawyer I get lots of legal questions from parents of recruits. Most of them have very little to do basketball or the NCAA. I've made a lot of friends over the years using this technique. I don't' steer a kid anywhere. I did once tell a player that an Ivy League education is worth a lot of money when he was thinking of playing football at a smaller school. He signed with Brown. He's a doctor today. Don't get me wrong – I love reading about recruiting. I know Rodney Orr does a good job on Tiderinsider. I don't know the guys at Rivals.com. They have the glitz of a fancy web site. TiderInsider is more like family. Scout.com is so far off from my own personal observations I generally don't choose to read them often. None of this has anything to do with Bama's class. It may add one more player and that young man would greatly enhance the national standing of the class. Andrew Steele – is a four star player without doubt. Much more tough nosed than his brother, bigger as well. His 6-4 or taller frame is going to cause more match up problems for future Tide opponents than Rudy Guilano at a pro-life rally. He'll be big time. JayMichael Green- best player in Alabama. The five star power forward puts the thunder in thunder dunk. You can build a team around the 6-9 238 pounder. Oh yeah, he and Andrew Steele decided to play together. Tony Mitchell- most services have him at four stars. This 6-6 small forward may be the best athletic player ever signed by Alabama. I want you think about that for a long time. I'd give him five easy stars and the best player in this class. The Rumor- Is J'Mison Morgan going to sign with LSU or not? Generally, a person who changes his mind is confused, but most of the time he'll sign with the original school. This might true with JM. I reported to our readers that the day he announced to LSU he told the press he like Alabama the best. I"d go with LSU but don't rule Bama out until the fax is sent. Top Ten? I'd say so. With Morgan? Top Five beyond a doubt. Is it a class you can build conference championships Absolutely. |
