Could it be?Got this call today from a man who knows an awful lot about the 'Bama basketball program. According to him, the reason that Alabama is not in postseason play is because the University is actively searching for a new head coach. Alabama doesn't want to have anything in their way of interviewing coaches ASAP. Read that as soon as certain teams get beat in the NIT or NCAA. I don't buy it, but have to admit the word on the street is that something is going on in Tuscaloosa. I'd give this one about 10% of being true. I personally believe it has more to do with the NCAA than anything. I'll elaborate later this week or early next week. I wanted to watch the UAB Blazers and VCU play because of the Anthony "I'm leaving VCU soon" Grant. A couple of things I noticed. One is that UAB has a lot more talent than Alabama. Seriously, Hendrix would start, and perhaps Riley, but the other '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''Bama starters would see some opening game pine time. I'm not sure that UAB hasn't already beaten the Tide to the punch in talent. Next season with Steele, Green, Mitchell, Steele2, Gee, and perhaps Hendrix might be better. Mike recently told us that he was going to go out and get him a couple of inside players and I know who they are. Oh my, is basketball on the cusp of some real interest in this State. The second is that VCU is pretty shallow on big time talent. They look like Florida miniature. I heard the first rumblings about Jeff Lebo from big time AU alum today. Not happy in Tigerland with their less than sterling finish. I think his job is safe. A couple of more years of bad finishes and he'll feel the heat. Beating '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''Bama was big for Lebo. How come UAB's freshman point guard, Aaron Johnson is so poised and well coached in his first year? While we are just dreaming it would be great to see Steele, Vaden, and Hendrix together wouldn't it. How good would Alabama have been with Steele, Riley, Hendrix, DJ White, and Gee? Robert Vaden is the real deal isn't he. I'd love to see a three point shooting contest between him and Mykal Riley. I hope that Mark Gottfried can keep players like White and Stanley Robinson in State. You can't tell me that UAB isn't a NCAA team. Sorry, even as an Alabama fan you can't ignore the obvious. UAB is well coached, plays under control, runs their offense, and gives you heck on defense. Alabama fans and officials better wake up and smell the coffee. UAB is only going to get better as long as Mike Davis is on the sideline. |
